Operating much like a chimney, the cavity allows for moisture dissipation. It also creates a back pressure to eliminate rain ingress.
However, in the case of a fire, the cavity creates an open rate. This means that fire can spread both horizontally and vertically behind the system but with the addition of a fire rated rubber cavity seal this is eliminated. Maintaining ventilation for a free air space, rubber fire resistant seals expand to prevent any spread of fire.
